Powell’s is one of my favorite bookstores of all time, and I really wish I lived closer to Portland, OR to be able to visit it more often!
They are now offering a brand new book subscription box for children’s picture books. The team at Powell’s is known for having great recommendations, so while this isn’t YA oriented (like the blog), I know some of you may be interested if you have children of your own, nieces and nephews, or maybe you are studying early childhood education and looking for ideas in the classroom.
Here are the details they shared along with the first book featured. To see info on their site just click here for Powell’s. Subscriptions are open now; volume 1 ships on March 8th.
BOOX, Powell’s subscription picture book club, delivers a thoughtfully curated box to your doorstep every eight weeks. Each box features one new hardcover picture book and an additional hardcover staff favorite, along with other exciting goodies. Our kids’ team has sought out the best new picture books with diverse characters, inventive story lines, exquisite illustrations, and charming prose for you to treasure for years to come.
- A hardcover first edition of Not Quite Narwhal by Jessie Sima
- An additional hardcover picture book
- Other exciting goodies!
“Not Quite Narwhal instantly caught my attention with its magical cover, which features an adorable unicorn sporting a scuba helmet in the sparkly ocean depths. Inside we meet Kelp, a unicorn living among narwhals who can’t help but notice he’s a little different from his other narwhal friends — his tusk isn’t as long and he’s really not much of a swimmer. When a strong current sweeps Kelp up to the ocean’s surface one day, he’s drawn to a creature that will inspire a journey he’ll never forget. My family loved this joyful book for its themes of adventure and acceptance. The humor is perfect for both kids and adults to enjoy together, and the warm illustrations and many wonderful details make each reading feel like a special treat.” — Kim T., Powell’s Books
