I really enjoyed doing a tag for the first time last week. I haven’t technically been tagged for this one. Or that one. But I’m doing it anyway. Because.
Anyway, here we go!
PHASE 1 – INITIAL ATTRACTION: A BOOK THAT YOU BOUGHT BECAUSE OF THE COVER?
Everything is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer
I literally saw this across the room and walked over, picked it up, took it home, and devoured it. I know it’s a simple cover, but it was exactly what I wanted at the time. And the book is absolutely amazing. I’ve read every one of his books now.
PHASE 2 – FIRST IMPRESSIONS: A BOOK THAT YOU GOT BECAUSE OF THE SUMMARY
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Dystopian lit was really new to me at the time, so when I read the summary… I was in. It was so gripping, I did not put it down, and then had to get the next one as an e-book because it was the middle of the night and a holiday and I couldn’t NOT know what happened.
PHASE 3 – SWEET TALK: A BOOK WITH GREAT WRITING
Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
I never tire of this book. There are a lot of books I could’ve put here, but I’ve re-read this one more than those.
PHASE 4 – FIRST DATE: A FIRST BOOK OF A SERIES WHICH MADE YOU WANT TO PURSUE THE REST OF THE SERIES
Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
This book made me want to dye my hair blue like the MC. It was at first a kick-butt action story combined with school day stuff, then otherworldly shifts and an aching love story in the works… ugh, it was just magical. I need to re-read it. At the time, the remainder of the series wasn’t out, so it was a really long wait for the rest of the books.
PHASE 5 – LATE NIGHT PHONE CALLS: A BOOK THAT KEPT YOU UP ALL NIGHT LONG
Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
I had read Six of Crows in one day, and immediately went out to get Crooked Kingdom. CK was even better than SoC, and I couldn’t get enough of it. Everything comes together in this book… the relationships, the elusive characters that we didn’t get to learn much about, the Grisha magic, and all of my favorite quotes from this series seem to be from CK. I was sobbing in bed at 3am with this book and I loved every minute of it.
PHASE 6 – ALWAYS ON MY MIND: A BOOK THAT YOU COULD NOT STOP THINKING ABOUT
Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas
Without spoilers, I just really connected with Celaena in this book. She learned so much. The setting was absolutely beautifully written, and the danger in the forest (because there’s a forest… sorry if you consider that a spoiler) was HAUNTING. Those creatures gave me goosebumps. SO MUCH HAPPENS. I had so many feelings and it hurt so good. This remains my favorite of the Throne of Glass series (so far, anyway)!
PHASE 7 – GETTING PHYSICAL: A BOOK IN WHICH YOU LOVE THE WAY IT FEELS
Hunted by Meagan Spooner
I’m calling it now. I’m not even done with this book yet. But I love the atmosphere and feel of this book. Maybe it’s because I’ve also been an archer, maybe it’s because I love the Russian folklore worked in, or maybe it’s just because it’s awesome. I can’t wait to finish it, but I LOVE it so far.
PHASE 8 – MEETING THE PARENTS: A BOOK IN WHICH YOU WOULD RECOMMEND TO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
It’s a cliche for a reason. This book is guaranteed to make people feel something, no matter what it is. So I will continue to recommend this book to friends and family.
PHASE 9 – THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE: A BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU KNOW YOU’LL RE-READ MANY TIMES IN THE FUTURE
A Court of Thorns & Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
When every reading group you are in uses the acronyms for these amazing books, and it wins in every poll for books that people love or are looking forward to… you know you have a hit. I know, I know… it’s not Harry Potter, which I will also read again. But you know what? I haven’t re-read HP yet, and I have read ACOTAR and ACOMAF three times. And I have a countdown to ACOWAR. So the next time someone in your online group says ACOTAR, ACOMAF or ACOWAR… now you know.
PHASE 10 – SHARE THE LOVE!
Hmm, I’m not sure who to tag! I’ll get better at this. If you decide to do this tag after reading this, please tag me on your next tag 🙂
Xoxo, and Happy Thursday!
